My Reflections On Athena's Birth of Alana
I’ve been saying I wish I had more Aquarius friends, and February did not disappoint in that sense :) Two lovely babes born in early February, within one week of each other!
Athena sent a text that she’d been having contractions every 8 minutes for about 45 minutes. With a history of fast births, she asked me to come quickly.
I loaded my baby into the van and made the scenic drive from my home through the red rocks to her home, the moon’s light reflecting off the giant otherworldly rock formations, adding grounding energy to the exciting experience of driving to my third ever solo midwifery client’s birth.
As I drove, I sent out prayers to god/goddess and my guides, asking them to work through me and to protect the space and the birth with golden energy, and to hold the highest vision for this birth to unfold for the highest good of all of us involved, but also the community of Sedona in general.
I arrived to their home to see Athena in the pool, gracefully breathing through contractions that came every couple minutes. In between she was complimenting her husband and her daughter on how beautifully they were holding space for her.
I peeked into her pool to see rose quartz crystals surrounding her on the bottom of the pool, setting a grid of gorgeous love energy with which to bring her baby into this realm. Fitting for a birth date of Valentine’s Day :)
15 minutes after I arrived, she said she was starting to feel a bearing down feeling, and then 15 minutes after that, her baby slipped into this world into the hands of her husband Michael and was gently guided forward into Athena’s hands.
Baby Alana cried briefly and then began the process of slowly coming into her body... pretty obviously slipping back out and in energetically a few times before anchoring into her body and then opening her eyes to look around with the calm energy of “I’m here.”
Over the sound of Michael and Athena gently welcoming their baby into this now, I felt tears tingling in my eyes as I thought back over the course of Athena’s pregnancy that was undoubtedly one of the more physically trying pregnancy experiences I’ve witnessed throughout my birth working career.
Excess saliva, whole-pregnancy nausea and heartburn, body aches and pains, painful varicosities, plus a whole host of issues with moving back and forth from Hawaii, trying to find decent housing in this insane Sedona market, and more.
I will never not be impressed by the determination of women to bring their babies into this world in a way that is best for them. In spite of all the challenges, in spite of people telling them they can’t, in spite of it all, women persevere. For their children and for the future of us all.
I bow down to women like Athena, who do it all so gracefully too. Thank you, thank you, thank you! What you did in your pregnancy and birth, and what you’re doing now in your work and in your mothering, is for the greatest good of us all, and I see you in that and honor you! So much love to you and yours, and thank you for the honor of witnessing you in such power and grace. 💛
( Check out my instagram here for the video of her birth! And feel free to share that post with your friends, I really do think the world needs to see more depictions of births like this! )
